A small group of volunteers turned a winter headache into a neighborhood effort, helping older residents safely get out of their homes after a heavy snowfall.

When the snow piles up, a simple driveway can become a wall between a resident and the rest of the community. This week, several Gaylord neighbors decided that was not acceptable.

The group organized through phone calls, text messages, and a few social media posts, then split into small teams to help clear driveways for older residents and people with mobility challenges. The work was simple, but the effect was immediate: safer walkways, open driveways, and residents who knew someone was looking out for them.

Newsroom Rewired highlights this kind of story because it shows the real strength of Gaylord: people see a need, grab a shovel, and get to work.

Residents who want to help future efforts can submit volunteer tips, community needs, or positive neighborhood stories through the Submit News page.
